I’ve always loved the new year. I get excited by new beginnings and another 365 days filled with endless possibilities, high hopes, and the chance to make dreams a reality.
But not long after the clock strikes midnight on January 1 and the confetti is swept up in Times Square, it’s as if our world goes back to its not-so-happy ways. Gone are the well wishes of the new year we just rang in; it’s back to the negativity, rancor, division, and craziness that have become all too common in our world today.
While I certainly can’t offer solutions to all the problems our world faces as we begin 2024, one simple thing is very clear to me: We’d all be better off this year if we stop “tearing apart” and focus instead on showing more heart – at home, in the workplace, online, and in our community.
I recently read something that resonated deeply as we embark on this new year: "Your life can really change in a year. You've just got to love yourself enough to know you deserve more, be brave enough to demand more, and be disciplined enough to actually work for more."
More heart: It’s such a simple way to make our world – and our lives – a little better.
My professional life changed in a big way in 2023. With the love and support of those who matter most to me, I followed my heart and boldly embarked on a professional transformation. Although I had a good job in a great company for many years, my heart and soul longed for something different. So I actively listened and discerned, took a giant leap of faith, left my job to go on my own, and better aligned the work I do as a communicator and writer with my heart, mind, and spirit. What an incredible and uplifting journey it has been! Each new day, I have learned a great deal and found tremendous joy in the work I do – much of it, to my delight, involving stories of the heart.
For me – a dream-chaser with a big heart – it just feels so right.
During this first year on my own, I have been blessed to work on some very special projects with some truly wonderful people. Whether it’s helping with a book a client has longed to write, documenting a family story another wants to preserve, or supporting some inspiring projects a third client is eager to move forward, all have one very important thing in common: They all are communications from the heart. Each also has touched my heart…opened my eyes to new possibilities that surround me…and reminded me that communications with heart is the valuable “art” that I offer others.
More heart. Couldn’t we all benefit from some in this new year?
After more than three decades in the communications field in a variety of successful roles – internal communications pro, PR director, writer, editor, author, content and video producer, marketer, idea guy, engagement guru, event planner, and more – I am excited to leverage my versatile skills and years of experience in new and different ways. In 2024, “Martial’s Art,” as I creatively call it, is all about assisting individuals – in addition to organizations – with communications that truly matter to them, no matter how big or small. Communications they’re passionate about. Indeed, communications from the heart.
So this year, if you have personal or professional communications that you want to pour more heart into, I’d be honored to help you do so. Visit martialbednar.com to learn more – and discover how “Martial’s Art” can help advance those stories in your heart.
Wishing you a wonderful 2024. May it be filled with more heart! ❤️
